The business community supports Kai Hagen for County Commissioner. As a Frederick County business owner, I have come to the conclusion that Kai Hagen as County Commissioner would be very good for business, and that, in contrast, the continuing the status quo of the current pro-development Board of County Commissioners would be just as bad for business as it would be for the rest of the county.

My firm, Michael Strategic Analysis, relocated to Frederick County in 2004 and would not have considered moving here if Frederick County even remotely resembled Montgomery County or any of the rest of the DC-Baltimore sprawl. And our outlook on this is not unique here. I was recently speaking with the president of one of the largest private-sector employers in the County, a well known national firm which decided to relocate its headquarters here in large part because of the rural ambience of Frederick County and its absence of urban crowding, traffic and other problems. This CEO, who is rather conservative, now worries that the current County Commissioners have rolled out the red carpet for developers to spoil the county. I share this CEO’s concern.

Excessive, poorly located, overly concentrated growth is bad for all of Frederick County including local businesses. Growth will happen here but there is no reason it has to happen any faster than you, I and other voters of Frederick County think is healthy. I know two of the three pro-developer Commissioners personally and they are good people, but it is time to put some moderate new faces on the Board of County Commissioners.

Kai Hagen is a thoughtful moderate when it come to growth, and will strive for the right quantity and right quality of growth for Frederick County. Join me and hundreds of other Frederick County business owners and vote Kai onto the Board of County Commissioners this November.
