I am grateful that Kai Hagen has decided to run for County Commissioner. He will be a thoughtful voice for the citizens of Frederick County. His continued support for responsible land use is evident in his columns and in his actions. Kai is a man whose actions speak as loudly as his words. That is a rare quality in politics.
His commitment to the future of Frederick County is clear. His determination to halt reckless and thoughtless sprawling development will assure the protection of our quality of life, today and tomorrow. The benefits of urban sprawl and over-crowded schools are few and clear only to those developers who profit from bad planning and the careless development of our distinct towns and rural landscape.
He and FRAN have supported my family and neighbors in our attempt to halt the building of a large and inappropriate commercial complex on land that is zoned for agriculture, that was reaffirmed as such in our region plan, that is squeezed between a quiet, rural neighborhood and a Buddhist Spiritual Retreat Center, and where two vulnerable streams come together. He provided valuable advice, helped us to bring attention to the issue, writing and speaking on our behalf, and appeared at several late-night meetings.
I know he will display the same passion and dedication in his efforts to ensure responsible development and protect the quality of life in Frederick County. Kai's voice of sanity and clear vision of the long-term consequences of today's actions will benefit all of Frederick County. We need Kai on the Board of County Comissioners.
