Blog Launch and Campaign Launch

Here we go. This is the first entry of my first blog!

Among other things, I'll be using this space to post a variety of thoughts and observations about my campaign for the Frederick County Board of County Commissioners, current issues and events in the county, and a variety of other policy matters.

I'll also use the blog to respond to some of the questions visitors ask via email. If you have any questions, please send them to me. I'll be sure to respond, and may include my response and/or related thoughts here.

I may not post here every day, but I intend to post frequently. Please bookmark this page, and come back regularly! If you'd like to receive each blog entry by email, send me an email (even a blank one) with "Blog" as the subject line, and I'll add you to the list.

Blog postings will be conversational and candid. I hope you find them constructive and engaging.

Hard to believe it's already been more than three weeks since the "official" campaign launch!

Although we considered a typical launch, in the middle of the day, on the steps of Winchester Hall, I was reluctant to schedule it for a time that's difficult, if not impossible, for most folks. Instead, we scheduled it for a weekday evening, in the Community Room at the C. Burr Arts Library in downtown Frederick. We put the word out, and hoped fifty or sixty friends and supporters would show up to help kick-off the campaign.

It would be hard to describe how it felt as more than 130 people jammed into the room!

The crowd was enthusiastic, the atmosphere was electric, and, as one friend said to me in an email later, it felt like a real community. Someone else noted that it felt more like a rally in the final days of a long campaign than, well, what it was, a gathering eight months before election day!

I'm tempted to post a detailed description of the evening, but I'll spare you, except to note that it was a remarkable experience for me. Everyone was so supportive. I couldn't have asked for a better way to kick-off the campaign.

Thank you very much to everyone who showed up!

It's going to be a long and demanding year, but with a great team working with me, and all the other folks who are already supporting the campaign in many ways, I expect it will be more energizing than exhausting!

WHY I'M VOTING FOR KAI!

Robert Strasser
Frederick

My original aquaintance with Kai Hagen came several years ago. We were neighbors and both serving as advisors to the Catoctin Land Trust. Together we shared a concern about protecting our regions natural heritage and limiting the excess growth that was transforming Frederick County too quickly and short sightedly into more of the suburban sprawl that has cost Maryland so much of its rural landscape. He has a good mind for detail and pays...
