Joe Spatarella & the Karen Oliver Band

Joe has been playing music and writing songs for over 20 years. He grew up in Brooklyn, New York listening to Jimi Hendrix and began his music career playing in hard rock bands. Over time, Joe's music evolved to original acoustic folk-rock songs about politics, social issues and an on-going struggle with time.

A resident of Maryland since 1987, he is Vice President of the Baltimore Songwriters Association (BSA) and has just completed his second CD EP, "Not What You Say".

His song, “One More Time” can be heard on the Baltimore Songwriters Association (BSA) Compilation CD “Songs From Our Circle TOO” and has been played on listener supported radio stations including WETA (Washington, DC) Traditions program and WTMD (Towson University, Towson, Maryland) Detours program.

The song "In The End" from his new CD "Not What You Say" will be featured on this year's BSA Compilation CD, "Songs From Our Circle, 4"

3:AM

3:AM is an all original band that formed in '04 in Frederick Maryland. The band draws from many styles ranging from R&B, Alt, Jam, to Rock and Funk. Playing live is where 3:AM really shines. Before coming to Maryland, Peter Drew went to Johnson in Vermont where he formed the band Augusta Brown. This VT jam band went on to tour extensively and played with Jon Fishman's Pork Tornado, Moe, Tim Reynolds (Dave Matthews Band), and Peter got to share the stage with Trey at the former Club Toast. The improv and playfulness of this period is very evident in Fredericks own 3:AM

Acoustic Sidedish

Featuring George Pappas.

George Pappas grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland. A singer/songwriter, he has a a CD of original music called "Sligo Creek." The title cut of the CD describes some of the events ("I could have written a hundred verses") that transpired in my life around the creek. Most of the people who worked on the recording lived near Sligo Creek as well.

George thinks it captures the sentiment of many who know the area really well. He truly loved the serenity of Sligo Creek and has fond memories of his life there when he lived across the street from it in the late 50's and 60's..

Stop the Madness!

What do we mean by that?

Stop the Madness is an all-afternoon, family-friendly celebration, with great live music and a variety of outdoor activities in a beautiful setting on an old farm in the forest in the heart of the Catoctin Mountains. But it is also a poliical event, even if only around the edges.

This outdoor concert event is being sponsored by the "Friends of Kai Hagen." The proceeds will go to support his campaign for the Frederick County Board of County Commissioners. Kai will speak briefly between a couple of the bands. A few other candidates for county commissioner are likely to attend, as well. There will be a few tables at the edge of the meadow where attendees can meet the candidates, pick up other information, or grab a bumper sticker or a yard sign to take home.

Frederick County is at a crossroads, and Kai's campaign is an important part of the fight to save the heart and soul of Frederick County.

Our current planning process and business-as-usual development patterns will continue to diminish our quality of life if we don't change course. Who we elect to the Board of County Commissioners in November will affect every aspect of life in the county.

Please join us on the 23rd. Have a great time, and help make a difference that matters!

ADVANCE TICKET PURCHASE

If you are planning to attend, please consider purchasing your tickets in advance via our secure PayPal site.

You do
not have to have a PayPal account. You can make a secure online purchase with any major credit card.

Purchasing tickets in advance will enable you to avoid waiting a few minutes in line at the event. But, more importantly...

This is a fundraising event. Even though it has been organized by volunteers, and all the bands are playing for free, there are costs involved in putting on an event like this. Purchasing a non-refundable ticket (or a few) in advance is a way that Kai's supporters can collectively provide an "insurance policy" if the weather does not cooperate (though we are all expecting a beautiful autumn day in the mountains).

Either way, we hope to see you on the mountain!

Upon transaction completion
(or cancellation)
you will be returned to this page.

"Stop the Madness" is an outdoor concert celebration of Frederick County.

It's also about the fact that the best of Frederick County is at risk.

Frederick County is at a crossroads. We can still save the heart and soul of Frederick County. But our unbalanced, business-as-usual, out-of-date, economically-unsound and environmentally-irresponsible approach to planning and development will continue to diminish our quality of life if we don't change course.

Please join us on the 23rd.

Enjoy great music with family and friends in a beautiful Catoctin Mountain setting, and support a campaign to "stop the madness" of helter-skelter and haphazard sprawl.
